The rural extension service, in Rondônia, state of Brazil, was created in August 31, 1971. The institution was founded with the legal entity of Civil Society for educational and non-profit purposes and emerged aiming to promote the rural extension in the Federal territory of Rondônia.

The Empresa Estadual de Assistência Técnica e Extensão Rural do Estado de Rondônia – EMATERRO (The State company of technical assistance and rural extension of the State of Rondônia) with legal, administrative, budgetary and financial autonomy is linked to the Secretaria de Estado da Agricultura, Abastecimento, Aquicultura e Pesca (Seag) (Secretary of State for Agriculture, Supply, Aquaculture and Fisheries]

Its role is to provide Ater services with excellence, where the actions are developed educationally, transparent to and with farmer’s relatives (which are the actors of the sustainable development) and its organizations, with holistic vision of the property, seeking the integration and complementarity of production factors, using new methodologies (Diagnóstico Rural Participativo – DRP /Participatory Rural Diagnosis, Diagnóstico Organizacional Participativo – DOP /Participative Organizational Diagnosis among others), techniques and participative tools; having as its goals the human, social and economic sustainable development.
